Eden. A perfect destination, just as its name implies.
Our first port on the Australian mainland is a small town of 3300 inhabitants halfway between Sydney and Wellington. A former whaling village, Eden today depends primarily on tourism for its economy.
The containers that often surround us in our berth are here replaced by single family homes. Eden has the third deepest natural harbor in the southern hemisphere. On debarking, one climbs a hill to the 3 block long town center. Eden has no stoplights.
We walk through town and down the other side of the hill to Aslings Beach, a lovely long stretch of sand extending from the town cliff. A salubrious stroll along the strand squashes sand between the toes. We return to town, have a coffee, and continue to the ship.
Eve returns to the cabin; I continue along the harbor neck to the headland. I find several points to take in the views of Twofold Bay. The whalers of old used Boyd’s Tower to catch the first sights of their prey.
An enchanting town, in a great location with a perfect harbor. Visit Eden.
