Sydney - Day 1 - First Impressions

The alarm was set for 6:00 am. The dramatic entrance to Sydney harbor must not to be missed.

I bring coffee to our cabin. Eve sleeps. Our cabin balcony, on the port side of the ship, offers a wonderful view of the Opera Hall and Harbor Bridge. We berth at the White Bay Cruise Terminal, from which a shuttle bus will bring us to town and back.

I know Eve does not feel well when she sleeps through our arrival in Sydney. I head into town alone. From the bus stop near Hyde Park, I wend my way through the greenery and museums to the coast. The Opera House is in sight.

This iconic landmark is over 40 years old. I marvel at how new and fresh it appears, even up close.

My path continues around the Circular Quay towards the Harbor Bridge, and then along the wharves of Welsh Bay. The Barangaroo Reserve and Zoo come next. I catch a glimpse of the Artania.

Bondi Beach is calling out to me. After a 45 minute drive in a city bus I arrive. The beach, facing the Pacific coast, is shorter than I had expected. But the requisite surfers and volleyballers are in action, despite the dark clouds.  I walk the length of the beach and back.

Enough of Sydney for one day. I head back to the ship; my Evelyn is feeling somewhat better. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
