Salvador de Bahia is filled with history. First founded in 1500 or so, it languished for a while until the lucrative sugar and slave trade evolved. It was the colonial capital of Brazil for over 200 years. It has a large old town center, with colonial buildings and churches in all colors and sizes. And inhabitants in all colors and sizes. It claims to have the largest Carnival parade in the world.
Our guided tour through the Old Town included a delightful lunch in a local restaurant, and a walk around the square where Michael Jackson filmed his music video, “They Don’t Care About Us”. Back on the bus, we rode to a couple of key points along the Bay of All Saints. And back to the ship at sunset. Tired and sweaty, we concluded it had been a very fine day.
Tonight the ship embarks for the short cruise to Ilhéus.

This looks like a first highlight on your trip!
