Eve advised me that our long walk on the beach was her absolute highlight of the day.
I have to agree. The warm waves rolling over the firm white sand and enveloping our feet as we meandered back to the ship from town evoked a wonderful sense of wellbeing. In our little world, at this very moment, nothing could be improved. We collected a few shells, watched the birds, and snapped a few photos.
The day began with a walk along the street into town, about 2 km away. Eve shopped for a belt, but found none. I bought a pair of plastic flip-flops. Ilhéus has 200k residents, the economy is based on tourism and the export of cocoa.
Jorge Amado is a very well known Brazilian writer who lived here in Ilhéus all his life. Many of his stories take place in the area. He is commemorated all through the town. I have added his name to my reading list.
We embark shortly for Buzios. Tomorrow is a sea day.
