Bali - Liz and Hal

Today is special. I met Hal and Liz Edmonds in Sacramento over 40 years ago when we moved in across the street. I have wandered around the US and Germany since then, never staying in one place too long. They still live in the same house in Sacramento. When we first told them about our world cruise plans, Hal said that they would try to meet us somewhere along the way.

And it has come to pass. They and Chris, their driver, pick us up at the cruise terminal and we drive to Kedonganan Beach. We enjoy a brunch and long talk.

Pondering our next move, we feel it best not to exert ourselves too much. Chris drives us to Berawa, a surf beach with bars, lounge chairs, and restaurants. We arrange ourselves in the lounge chairs and nap and talk and watch the goings on.

As dinnertime approaches, we meet Lesley, another longtime friend of Hal and Liz. Lesley is in the process of changing her life entirely. After 14 years of living in Bali, running a private school, she is moving to Munich to open a school there. Lesley promised to contact us once she is in Germany.

We have a lovely dinner together. Eve has not felt well most of the day, and eats little, but remains in good spirits.

The evening winds to an end. We bid one another farewell. Chris’s brother drives Eve and me back to the ship.

Thank you for your friendship, Liz and Hal.
