The day dawned bright and clear. We docked at the old port right next to the city center. Our guided tour group gathered on the pier and set off on foot to discover Montevideo.
Teatro Solis was today’s highlight. Modeled after La Scala, the opera hall is a center of the arts scene in Montevideo. It is a venue for performers from around the world.
The ceiling motif painted in the late 19th century commemorates 11 famous composers and playwrights. The name of one is misspelled.
There are three theories for this anomaly:
- The painters did not have enough space for all the letters.
- Will signed some of his manuscripts this way.
- The painters are showing their humanness; only God can be perfect.
