The Artania docks at its pier in Broome shortly after daybreak. The red sands on the low cliffs across from the pier glow in the morning sun. Eve and I, lathered with sunscreen, take the shuttle to town. At the town center we find the post office, where we mail postcards to family. Then, I seek and find out a wide brimmed hat to shade my face and neck. Duly outfitted, we take a bus to Cable Beach.
After exploring the rocks and shoreline, we pause for a pizza and beer, then take the bus back through town to Town Beach.
We sit in the shade at a picnic table in the adjacent park. Eve scours for sea shells on the beach. The sudden dark clouds send us scurrying back to the bus stop, where we catch the next bus back to town.
Then back to the ship. We cast off at sunset, where we are all on deck to wave “Goodbye” to Australia, the country and the continent. It has been a wonderful visit.
Next stop: Rinca Island, Indonesia

When we were living in Hawaii, we used to make plumaria leis for visitors. Our parents paid us 25 cents for each lei.
