“In the beginning there was only fog.”
Our first stop, the lookout for Wentworth Falls, disappoints. A heavy fog blankets the valley. No falls in sight.
Our second stop, the entrance to the Prince Henry Cliff Walk, is not much better. Eve and I head down along the path under the cliff’s edge. The thick fog imparts a mysterious feeling.
We return to the bus to drive on to the park’s main entrance. A lunch awaits us at the visitor’s center. An avian visitor watched for dropped crumbs.
Two gondola lifts and an almost vertical tram transport visitors part way down into the valley, where an underground coal mine once operated. Shut down in the 1930’s, little is left of the mine, other than some interesting displays.
We take the tram down and the fog lifts, as if some invisible hand suddenly raised the curtain. The Three Sisters formations are right in front of us.
The valley has a full fledged rain forest microclimate. We follow the walkway through the forest to one of the gondolas, ogling the gigantic tree ferns along the way.
The gondola brings us back to the top. We find the bus, and head back to the ship. The last passengers come on board, the safety drill is performed, and the lines are released. We leave Sydney. All are on deck to wave goodbye.
