Most of central downtown reflects this aesthetic. The downtown is rimmed along two sides by steep hills, all well developed over the years. Houses of various styles are perched on the terraced streets, each with a view to Hawke’s bay, or down the sloughs between the hills.
Eve and I followed the route of a city walking tour provided by the tourism board. Up one hill and down the other. A great way to see the town and work on our stamina.
A stretch followed the beach road. Penguins nest along this beach, though they are seldom seen. The weather today was perfect. We had well recuperated from our hiking exertions earlier in the week. By 15:30 we were back at the ship, where we were treated to a display of old-timer autos.
Tomorrow: Picton.
