Dunedin - Port Chalmers

First order of business: visit Dunedin. A 30 minute shuttle bus ride from Port Chalmers, Dunedin (Gaelic name for Edinburgh) is a large prosperous town first settled by the Scots in the gold rush of the mid 1800’s.

The town hall, train station, and numerous other structures are well maintained stone buildings.

The Octagon, a plaza in the town center, is skirted by the Writers Walk, a collection of plaques commemorating poets and writers with a connection to the area. Robbie Burns, the Scottish poet venerated by Scots around the world, is very present here.

Ending our walk through Dunedin, we pause near the Octagon for refreshment and then take the shuttle back to Port Chalmers.

From the harbor, we hike the shoreline to the end of the peninsula on which the town is built, and then back up a cliff through the town.

We end up at Flagstaff Lookout, just over our Artania.  Eve gives the walk 11 points.

Then back to the ship to prepare for our departure and dinner. This marks the end of our visit to New Zealand.
