A bright blue sky frames the city outline. Our first day in Auckland beckons.
After breakfast we set off with Rostock on foot. Destination: Mount Eden.
Mount Eden, a dormant volcano crater, is the highest natural viewpoint in Auckland. We hike to the rim, where we are rewarded with a spectacular view of the city. No need to stand in line and pay for a Skytower visit.
From here, we wander back towards the harbor, taking in the sights of the city along the way.
We pass by the Auckland Grammer School, a well respected private boy’s grammer school (Russell Crowe attended).
On to the Auckland Domain, a large park with numerous paths, a museum, and well manicured playing fields. The playing fields are centered in an extinct volcano crater with a well worn rim.
Our trek continues through the Parnell historic district, and on to Albert park, close to downtown.
Auckland impresses us all with its natural beauty and many art works. We head back to the ship, well satisfied with our first day.

Hi Joe, I am impressed with all your interesting hiking tours! You seem to be the perfect tour guide, even at the other end of the world!
ReplyDeleteThank you Gaby, I am not ready to be a tour guide, but it is wonderful to see and explore these towns during our very short visits.
