Dinner with the Captain

Yesterday afternoon, after cruising the north side of Robinson Crusoe Island, the captain set course for Easter Island, 1620 sea miles away. We have 4 sea days ahead of us before seeing land again. Will we get bored?

This first sea day went by quickly. The morning lecture, reading, and 10 laps around the deck were all very satisfying. A reception was held before dinner for the captain and cruise director (both new on board since San Antonio) to introduce themselves and their crew to us guests.

We had earlier received an invitation to sit at the Captain‘s Table for dinner, following the reception. 6 pairs, all making the complete world cruise, attended. Angelika and Wolfgang, our next door cabin neighbors were there. The other 4 pairs were all new to us.

The company was convivial and the conversation flowed easily. Eve sat next to the captain. I sat between Eve and Salzburg. Six courses served with ballet like precision were consumed. Each course was greeted by raised glasses. The captain is from the Ukraine. Nast rov’ye!
