Hobart

Hobart sits at the base of Mount Wellington, a volcanic peak thrusting 1270 meters into the clouds above the city.  Solingen (Marianne and Walter), standing in line behind us at Passport Control, suggest sharing a taxi to get to the top. “Splendid” we think, and off we go.

Today there are no clouds. We explore the views from all sides before heading back down.

Ravi, our taxi driver, drops us off on the river near Queens Domain, about 4 km from the harbor. A track along the waterfront brings us to the botanical garden.

One cannot spend too much time in a botanical garden. The trees here are impressive. As are the ferns.

Leaving the garden, we continue on the track through the domain and return to the ship. We put our feet up for a bit before heading out once more.

The ship debarks at 22:00 tonight. We use the opportunity to eat dinner at a steakhouse in town with our friends from Rostock.

The day has been full. Marianne and Walter were good company. The ribs at dinner rated 10.

On to Port Arthur.
